With a sip of chicken soup, dancer and choreographer Katherine Dunham ended her 47-day fast protesting the U.S. government's forced return of Haitian immigrants.

Dunham, 82, lived on water and cranberry juice from Feb. 1 until Wednesday, when she broke her fast at the urging of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti's deposed president."This is very good," she told reporters at her bedside. "Maybe I'll have some Jell-O later. I don't know. The idea of solid food at this moment - my stomach isn't happy with the thought."

Dunham said Aristide pleaded with her to end her fast when he visited Monday.
