THE SCHOOL

Built: Established in 1912. The current building was constructed in 1963.

Boundaries: Students from Spanish Fork, Salem, Woodland Hills, Benjamin, Leland, Palmyra and Lake Shore attend the school.

Mascot: The Don, a Spanish title meaning nobleman or knight.

Number of teachers: 46 full-time and 13 part-time.

Number of students: 1,160

10th grade: 454

11th grade: 365

12th grade: 341

Classrooms: 46 classrooms and 4 portable classrooms.

How students get to school: 698 students qualify for busing. The remaining 462 either drive to school or walk.

THE PRINCIPAL

Bob Wadley became principal of Spanish Fork High School in 1989.

Education: A Sky View High graduate, Wadley received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Utah State University and master's and doctorate degrees in education administration from Brigham Young University.

As a teacher: He began his teaching career at Payson Junior High School, teaching mathematics there and at Payson High School. He was the assistant principal at Payson High for two years before coming to Spanish Fork. Likes: Working with students and staff, seeing students grow and develop their talents and abilities, associating with people in the community and the challenge of providing a sound educational program. Dislikes: The paperwork, the stress and the long hours away from home and family.

Officials estimate the school's "Spirit Rock," which is painted to promote school spirit and to advertise upcoming events, has more than 100 coats of paint on it. THE STUDENTS Hitting the books: The most popular elective classes are the arts - choir, etiquette, art, dance and drama. Also popular are the welding and small-engines classes. We belong: The most popular clubs are Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America and Future Business Leaders of America. Current sports and academic titles: Tied for region championship in football and won first place for its division at the SUU Shakespearean Festival. The cheerleaders have placed high in national competitions, including winning first place in Anaheim in 1990. Student body officers: Micah Rolfe, president; Mary Frampton, secretary; Mike Slye, historian; Amy Cloward, vice president-assemblies; Brian Hughes, vice president-publicity; and Sandi Morley, vice president-dances. THE GRADUATES Graduation rate: Approximately 90 percent. Class of '91 scholarships: Approximately 25 percent of last year's senior class received scholarships. Hall of Fame: Steven Studdert, political consultant; Marie Huff, Spanish Fork mayor; Glen Beere, executive director of the Utah High School Athletic Association; Elder Rex Pinegar, member of the presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Rep. Rim Moran, D-Spanish Fork; Sen. Eldon Money, D-Spanish Fork; J. Wayne Nelson, former superintendent of Nebo School District.
