The board of governors of the International Hockey League has approved the move of the Muskegon Lumberjacks to Cleveland.
The board, meeting Tuesday at Cleveland State University, approved the move unanimously.Team owner Larry Gordon said a decision would be made soon on whether the Lumberjacks will play their home games in the Cleveland State Convocation Center or the Coliseum in Richfield.
Gordon wanted to move the team out of Muskegon because the city, which has a population base of about 150,000, is the smallest market in the IHL.
The team's attendance is last in the league with an average of 2,600 fans a game, compared with the league average of 5,700.
