Brigham Young University has given its 1992 Exemplary Womanhood Award to Flora Amussen Benson, wife of LDS Church President Ezra Taft Benson.

The award was announced Thursday at an assembly in the Wilkinson Center Ballroom. Amy Miner, president of the BYU Student Service Association, relayed Mrs. Benson's thanks because the recipient was too ill to attend. Miner and Maren Mouritsen, dean of student life, presented the award plaque earlier to Mrs. Benson in her Salt Lake home."The Exemplary Womanhood Award is given to a woman who represents an ideal for Mormon women," said Miner. "Over the years, Sister Benson has been a wonderful support to the prophet, giving service daily and providing an example for young LDS women. The students at BYU nominated her because of her lifetime example."

The women's award is presented every other year, alternating years with an Exemplary Manhood award.
