The Weber County Fairgrounds will be the site of the international World Champion Cutter and Chariot Racing Association's championships for the next three years.

The selection of Ogden marks the first time the championships will be held in Utah.Cindy Williams, director of the fairgrounds and Golden Spike Arena, said the event should draw crowds of about 3,500 for preliminary races and at least 10,000 for the finals.

Each year, 125 two-horse chariot teams from throughout the western United States and Canada compete in the championships.

Pocatello, Idaho, has hosted the event for the past three years and was bidding for it again from 1993 through 1995. Ogden beat out Pocatello, as well as Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Reno., Nev.

Williams said the next three championships will be March 17-29, 1993; March 16-28, 1994; and March 15-27, 1995.

The racing centers are in Utah, where Weber County's Tom Close is the defending world champion, and in Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, Williams said.
