Joel Everett Clayton, 25, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 1992 due to heart failure and the complications of diabetes. He died in Salt Lake City, at the University of Utah Medical Center.
He was born in Denver, Colorado on February 12, 1967. He was the son of Ronald Joel and Lois (Dolly) Simmerman Clayton.Joe was a 1985 graduate of Viewmont High School and the LDS Seminary. He also completed "with highest honors" a course in Building Construction from NRI. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and at the time of his death was the Elders Quorum Executive Secretary in the Centerville 18th Ward. He was a Life Scout.
Joel had a lifelong intense love and interest in railroads and basketball was one of his favorite pastimes. He loved to build from when he was a small child, and after high school he worked in the building industry with a special interest in concrete. For the past year, he has been employed at Pro-Mark, Inc. as a product assembler. Even though Joel became blind about four years ago, he always dreamed of building his own business. Most recently, he has been designing and supervising the construction of high quality redwood picnic tables.
He is survived by his parents, Ron and Dolly Clayton of Centerville; one brother, Paul Edward of Centerville; grandmother, Marie Clayton of New Braunfels, Texas; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Ernest.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2, 1992, at 12:00 noon, at the Centerville 1st Ward, 160 South 300 East, Centerville. Friends may call at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, in Bountiful, Monday, from 7-9 p.m. and at the church form 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment in the Centerville City Cemetery.
