Dr. Harold Ivan Hansen, age 78, died June 23, 1992 in Provo, Utah.
He was born March 10, 1914, a son of Hans Dederik and Caroline Nilsina Hartman Hansen. He married Betty Mae Kotter July 16, 1940 in Palmyra, New York. Marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.Harold received his BA degree from Utah State in 1937 and continued his education at the University of Iowa, where he received his MA and Ph.D. In 1971, he received the Karl g. Maeser Distinguished Teacher Award from BYU. He served in 1937-1940, an Eastern States Mission, where his first assignment was to direct the Hill Cumorah Pageant in 1937 and continued to 1977. In 1952 he started the first Independence Day Production in BYU Stadium. He taught at Utah State, Michigan State, University of Iowa and BYU in drama and theatre art. He also taught seminary in Big Horn, Wyoming and Bear River, Utah.
He is survived by his wife of Provo; four daughters, Mrs. Robert R. (Leslie) Brown, Orem; Mrs. Dale (Linda) Jordan, Dallas, Oregon; Mrs. William (Betty Ann) Gibbons, and Mrs. Craig (Patti) Phillips, both of Orem; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Swen Hansen, Anaconda, Montana; Hans D. Hansen, Jr., Logan; Ingrid Webster, Salt Lake City; and Cora Choppell, Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by an infant son, and nine brothers and sisters.
He led a life devoted to service to his family, church and country. The joy of his life was to be with those he loved; his family and students and his influence on all of them is immeasurable.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 17, 1992, at 12:00 noon, at the Edgemont 3rd Ward Chapel, 2950 North Canyon Road, Provo. Friends may call Friday evening, 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center, St., Provo, or Saturday, one hour prior to services.
