Academy Award winning lyricist Sammy Cahn is being honored by the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston where he is a patient.

Cahn, in his 70s, was to pick up the first Joslin Distinguished Achievement Award, which recognizes special accomplishments achieved while meeting the challenges of life with diabetes.Cahn, who has penned more than 2,500 published songs and has more active copyrights than any living composer, said he was very shaken when he recently discovered he had diabetes.

"As the man who wrote `High Hopes,' I must admit, I came to Joslin Diabetes Center with my chin placed squarely on the ground," he said. "I saw my life as a lyricist and performer coming to an end."
