Aggravated robbery charges filed in 3rd Circuit Court Wednesday accused Salt Lake's "preppy bandits" of committing robbery at gunpoint five times from September 1991 to June of this year.
Detectives say they're looking into as many as 14 other robberies in Salt Lake and Summit counties during the same time frame to see if the foursome may have been involved in others.Adam Galli, 23, and his brother, Aaron Galli, 22, each were charged with aggravated robberies. The brothers' cousins, Christopher Galli, 17, and Nathan Galli, 19 - also brothers - are accused of joining Adam Galli in three other robberies.
The charges against the four include sentencing enhancements, allowed under state law when a robber uses a gun.
The first of the robberies charged occurred Sept. 21, 1991, at the Casa Del Sol restaurant, 1114 E. Ft. Union Boulevard. A restaurant employee told investigators that Adam Galli robbed her at gunpoint, the court complaint says.
On March 9, Aaron Galli robbed an Avenues-area man at gunpoint, the complaint says.
On April 29, Adam Galli, Christopher Galli and Nathan Galli committed another armed robbery, this time at The King's English Bookstore, 1511 S. 1500 East, Salt Lake City, the complaint alleges.
On June 6, Adam Galli and Nathan Galli are charged with teaming up to rob the Tool Shed, 402 E. 6th Avenue, again at gunpoint. Just two hours later, Adam Galli, Nathan Galli and Christopher Galli pulled a gun and robbed an employee of the Mann Theaters, 5001 S. Highland Drive, the court complaint charges.
Salt Lake police also consider Adam Galli a suspect in Merritt Riordan's murder on May 17. Rior-dan was working at the Green Parrot Cafe in downtown Salt Lake City when he was shot while in the basement after apparently surprising a pair of robbers.
Adam Galli disappeared after his brother and cousins were arrested in June but was arrested last Thursday in a Seattle cof-fee-house.
Aaron Galli, also considered a suspect, was booked into jail for investigation of murder but released. Investigators say they believe a gun found in Aaron Galli's apartment was the one used to kill Riordan.
Police said the Green Parrot robbers disguised themselves by wearing bandanas over their faces. No one was able to identify the robbers, and though detectives have met several times with Salt Lake County attorneys to discuss the case, charges may not be filed unless more evidence turns up.
Adam Galli now faces five counts of aggravated robbery, Aaron Galli faces two, Christopher Galli is charged with three counts and Nathan Galli faces four counts. Each is a first-degree felony and carries a possible maximum sentence of 5 years to life.
