The Grateful Dead has canceled five shows in Oregon and California so Jerry Garcia can recover from exhaustion. But Garcia is expected to be on his feet again in time for the group's fall tour. "He's ill, doctors say it's basically exhaustion," said spokesman Dennis McNally. "He's not hospitalized. He's at home, resting under a doctor's care." The Dead canceled appearances scheduled Aug. 22-23 in Veneta, Ore., and Aug. 25-27 in Mountain View, Calif. But the Dead's fall tour is still scheduled to kick off Sept. 9 in Washington, D.C. "We are pretty sure he'll be back in time for the fall tour," McNally said.
