Jeff Bordner, a versatile DJ who has a special style that attracts solid midday or afternoon radio audiences, is the newest personality on KSFI (alias "FM-100," FM), doing the 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. time slot.
Bordner previously worked at KISN for more than six years in the midday and afternoon drive time positions. He's been active in the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah, a board member of the Utah Suicide Hotline and an official softball member for the United Way.

- RADIO STATIONS PURCHASED/LEASED - US Radio L.P., one of the nation's largest broadcast groups, announced last week it has officially acquired KMGR-FM (adult contemporary format, alias "Magic 107.5") and has leased two other Utah stations - KBBX (country music, alias "K-Buck" FM-105.7) and sister station KBBX (gospel talk/Spanish, AM-1600).
US Radio and other Ragan Henry Group broadcast companies now operate 15 FM and 11 AM stations across the country.
"We are pleased to move into the thriving Salt Lake City and Utah markets," said Donald L. Kidwell, president and chief operating officers of U.S. Radio L.P.
The company plans to gain Federal Communications Commission approval later this year to acquire KBCK and KBBX outright, while it operates in a local marketing agreement (LMA).
Historically, any radio stations US Radio has purchased quickly develop significantly higher ratings, as measured by Arbitron.
But it seems unlikely any of the three stations could boost their ratings much without making some sort of programming changes. In fact, sources at several other Salt Lake radio stations believe some format adjustments will be made, especially at KKBX.
US Radio also has said it intends to become the nation's largest radio broadcast firm and is working toward the FCC's new maximum ownership figures - 18 FM and 18 AM stations that can be owned by one company.
- KUER (FM-90.1) - "Sound-waves," the award-winning KUER program designed to introduce young people to classical music started its fall season Thursday. The next program will be at 11:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, and is designed especially for first-graders. The 20-minute "Soundwaves" will air each Thursday at 11:10 a.m. through June, except during the Christmas school break.
Gene Pack hosts the program, produced in conjunction with the Utah State Office of Education. It is accompanied by a printed guide for teachers. A copy of the guide and more information on using the program at school is available by calling 538-7793.

- KLZX (alias "Z-93," FM-93.3, AM-860) - Craig Bolerjack paid a "surprise" visit to the Jon and Dan show last Friday. He'd hoped to pop in on the popular morning show personalities, but a leak of information warned of his coming.
Jon and Dan honored Bolerjack by listing the top 10 reasons for listening to KSL-TV news. Watching the Doug Miller outdoor segments was given as the No. 1 reason.
Because Jon and Dan spoof several KSL-TV people - Miller on "Mister Twister" and Don Gale on "Holy Don Grail," Bolerjack also brought some memorabilia along as gifts to Z-93, including an autographed photo of Gale.
Bolerjack also inquired why his counterpart at another station - Dave Fox - seems to have cornered the market on Jon and Dan's show. He said Ch. 5's "Sportsbeat" consistently has more viewers than "The Sports Den." Now it will be interesting to see if Jon and Dan will give Bolerjack more future play on Z-93.
- KISN FM-97.1) - "Fisher and Todd" continue to be prove they might well be the most creative morning radio personalities in Utah.
