Imagine being young, newly married, neurotic and living in New York.

(Of course, being neurotic and living in New York go pretty much hand-in-hand, don't they?)Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt portray just such a couple NBC's bright new comedy "Mad About You" (8:30 p.m., Ch. 2). And they make a fabulous couple.

As Paul and Jamie Cooper, they're made for each other. He worries about getting a good seat on the subway and someone stealing his dry cleaning. She worries about the dog suffocating in their apartment and the fact that they've gone five days without, well, shall we say, experiencing marital bliss.

"What's goin' on is that we're married five months and the sexual part is over," Paul says.

So they plan a romantic evening, only to be interrupted by various relatives and friends that each spouse assumed the other had uninvited to dinner that night.

Their solution is, shall we say, unique.

"Mad About You" is not, however, a comedy for the entire family. Once again, it's not raunchy, but it's aimed at adults.

This is very much a sitcom in the vein of the one that precedes it on NBC's schedule - "Seinfeld." Realistic characters battling life's little problems and frustrations.

Reiser has finally found the perfect vehicle for his brand of humor, which comes as no surprise because he co-created "Mad About You."

The often-overlooked Hunt is fabulous. If there's any justice, this series will make her a big star.

And, with any luck, "Mad About You" will be with us for years to come.
