Funeral services were held Friday in Bountiful for a Davis County youth who was killed Sept. 26 in a freak electrical accident while serving an LDS mission in Houston, Texas.

Elder Alan William Knight, 20, son of Richard E. and Maxine Poole Knight, Bountiful, who had served in the Texas Houston Mission for nearly a year, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after efforts were made to revive him at the scene.Knight died after an apparent short in electrical lines running along a fence on a freeway overpass caused the fence to become elec-tri-fied.

The youth's father said his son and three other missionaries had stopped to take a picture of a sunset. Knight apparently touched a portion of the fence. The young man's companions tried to revive him and also received assistance from a nurse until emergency vehicles arrived, according to information received by the family.

The youth graduated from Woods Cross High School and LDS Seminary in 1991. He was the recipient of the Eagle Scout and Duty to God Awards.
