Louisville accepted a bid Wednesday to be the home team in this year's Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

The 17th-ranked Cardinals (7-1) will most likely play the fifth-place team from the Big Ten on Dec. 28. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. MST and will be carried live by ESPN."They have a fine football program and on any given day they can beat anybody in the country and we're proud to have them committed to the Liberty Bowl," A.F. "Bud" Dudley, executive director and founder of the bowl, said during a news conference Wednesday.

Louisville coach Howard Schnellenberger said he is happy with the bowl choice.

"Obviously we're very excited to have the opportunity to play in this Liberty Bowl game," Schnellenberger said. "We're deeply touched that we're the first team to be offered a bowl."

Louisville's bowl chances were limited because it is not part of a coalition that guarantees its members a New Year's Day bowl game if they qualify.
