Town officials would like a medical emergency vehicle, and council members are investigating the possibility of forming and equipping a rescue squad.

The Town Council supports Mayor Kevin Young's proposal for an emergency vehicle. Young said the Fire Department and town could work together to get funding through grants.Young said he doesn't want Mona's crew taking over the responsibility of the East Juab Ambulance Association. He prefers a system that responds to medical emergencies.

He said a rescue van, not an ambulance, would be the best choice. Young said he had discussed the issue with the East Juab Ambulance Crew. "They have a good response time."

Young said a first-response-type van would be best. "We could do the basic first aid until the ambulance crew gets there."

He said grant money is available to help fund such a project. There are different degrees of medical emergency technicians, he said.

"Our fire department has a pretty good range," said Young. He said accidents in the community, at the nearby fishing areas and on the freeway would be within the range of the first-response team.
