Fred Ward has joined the cast of "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult," starring Leslie Nielsen as the bungling, inept police captain Frank Drebbin and Priscilla Presley as his long-suffering girlfriend.

Ward is best known for playing astronaut Gus Grissom in "The Right Stuff" and Henry Miller in "Henry and June." He currently is featured in Robert Altman's "Short Cuts."Director Peter Segal, announcing Ward's addition to the cast, said, "Why such a well-respected serious actor is working with us is beyond my comprehension."
