Wyoming coach Joe Tiller has been given a pay raise and a contract extension after his Cowboys' 8-3 season, which won them a bowl trip.

Athletic director Paul Roach said Monday that Tiller's new contract will increase the coach's base salary from $77,000 to $90,000 a year. Tiller had two years left in his original contract, but now will be under contract until Dec. 31, 1997. The new deal goes into effect Jan. 1.Tiller, 51, said he was happy with the deal.

"In my opinion, continuity is probably the single-most important ingredient in any program," he said. "With this extension, the administration has assured us of maintaining that continuity in our program."

Tiller became Wyoming's coach in December 1990 after 26 years as an assistant at several schools, including Wyoming in 1987-88.
