Idaho quarterback Doug Nussmeier, who led Division I-AA with 33 touchdown passes, won the Walter Payton Award as the division's top player Monday.

Nussmeier, who led the Vandals (11-3) to the semifinals of the Division I-AA playoffs, threw for 2,960 yards during the regular season and finished second nationally in passing efficiency.The senior received 21 of 77 first-place votes and 90 points in voting by Division I-AA sports information directors. Princeton running back Keith Elias finished second with 83 points.
