Machinery works to clear the area where houses were flattened by large boulders that fell off a mountainside in Cairo, Egypt, Tuesday. At least 27 people were known dead, 21 were rescued and another 12 were missing. Dozens were trapped by boulders and debris from their homes, and bulldozers trying to clear the rubble had difficulty maneuvering through the area's narrow alleys. About 15 buildings were damaged in the slide, which occurred before dawn. It was not immediately clear what caused the rocks to give way from the Mokattam Hills.
