A former Utah State University employee who pleaded guilty last month to embezzling more than $4,000 has been given a jail sentence and probation.

First District Judge Gordon Low Monday ordered Karen Ruth Curtis, 39, College Ward, to serve prison sentences of one-to-15 years and 0-to-5 years for felony counts of theft and misuse of public funds.Low suspended the prison terms and sentenced Curtis to serve a minimum of 20 days in jail, pay a fine of $18,500 and restitution.

Curtis admitted forging names of other employees on expense reimbursement forms and pocketing the money. While an employee at the USU Intensive English Language Institute.
