Malcolm James Macdonald, Jr., age 40, former Orem resident, died at his home in Federal Way, Washington on December 12, 1993 after a courageous fight against leukemia.

He was born January 2, 1953 in Poplar, Mt., to Malcolm James and Berta Lee Combs Macdonald. He married Janice Stokes, August 23, 1977 in the Provo LDS Temple. He was raised in Montana and received his education both there and in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1979 with a BS degree in Electronics Technology. In spite of illness, he completed his Master's degree in Software Engineering from Seattle University in June 1992.He served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to Germany in the 5th Signal Command. During his enlistment he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for marksmanship.

He has been employed by Digital Equipment Corporation for the past seven years, which led to his relocation to Washington in 1989. Previous employers included Signetics and WICAT.

He enjoyed problem solving and working with computers both at home and at work. Other hobbies included amateur radio, stunt kite flying, reading and traveling.

He is survivewd by his wife, Janice; and two daughters, Krista Lyn, and Janice Laurissa of Federal Way, Washington; his parents, Malcolm and Berta Lee, of San Bernardino, Calif.; and one brother and two sisters, Douglas J. Macdonald, Gillette, Wyoming; Ann'et Hinden, Verdi, Nev.; Wendy Macdonald, Federal Way, Washington.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 1993 at 2 p.m. at the Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 So. in Springville, Ut. Friends may call at the mortuary from 1-1:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
