Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Armstrong Bateman, age 84, passed away December 13, 1993 of natural causes.
Born October 12, 1909 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of John William Armstrong and Bena Holden. Graduated from Jordan High School. Married Marlon S. Bateman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 18, 1932. Mary has always been an active member of the LDS Church, holding many positions in Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, and the MIA. She raised four sons. She worked as a Divisional Secretary for ZCMI for 15 years. Civic service involved PTA, Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Pink Lady at Cottonwood Hospital, substitute taught for Jordan School District. She was also an active member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Mingo Camp, Midvale Ladies' Club and the Kultura Club. Mary served three missions for the LDS Church, in Oakland, California, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Atlanta, Georgia. She was also a temple worker for many years.Survivors: sons, Marlon H. (Susan), West Lake Village, California; C. Neldon (Karen), Dallas, Texas; E Ray (Mira), St. Charles, Missouri; Don W. (Carla), Sandy, Utah; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Armstrong Hickman, Washington, D.C.; 14 brothers and sisters-in-law. Preceded in death by her husband, Marlon S. Bateman; parents; brother and sisters.
Funeral services Friday, December 17, 1993, at 10 a.m. in the Sandy Third LDS Ward Chapel, 8850 South 150 West. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 8:45-9:45 a.m.
Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
