While most high schools won't begin region play until after the holidays, action in Region 14 is under way. And after two games it seems safe to say that Rowland Hall-St. Marks appears to be the team to beat.

Tuesday night on their home court the Winged Lions devoured Mount Vernon 93-53 to remain undefeated this season, running their record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in region play.Senior Rylind Sumner scored 25 points to lead Rowland Hall while teammate Adrian Larson came up just short of a recording a triple-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists.

Even though the game ended up a blowout, Mount Vernon (2-4, 1-1) hung tough in the first quarter before Rowland Hall pulled away near the end for a 23-10 lead.

The second quarter turned out to be the clincher as the Winged Lions used a tough pressure defense created havoc for the Patriots. That havoc turned into turnovers that led to easy layins for Rowland Hall, which held a 46-22 lead at intermission.
