Jay M. Hudson has been appointed an assistant to Ogden Mayor Glenn J. Mecham.

Hudson's experience includes hospital administration, private business ownership and government budget analysis. He has taught college courses and has been active as a community volunteer.Mecham said Hudson's responsibilities will include the expansion of the community volunteer efforts and acting as liaison between the mayor's office and the community. He will also be involved in seeking nontax sources of revenue.

EARLY GIFT: Jason Gutierrez, 22, of West Valley City, received an early Christmas present recently. Gutierrez won the Chevrolet Great American Pastime Exhibit Sweepstakes and claimed the grand prize, a new Chevy Camaro Z28.

Gutierrez entered the sweepstakes at the ZCMI Center in Salt Lake City in October. Gutierrez's chances of winning were one in 23,571.

HONORS: Norman Prichard, Carbon County clerk-auditor, has been named the Utah Association of Counties Outstanding County Officer.

Prichard, a clerk-auditor for nearly two decades, was one of five elected county officers nominated by association members. A selection committee picked Prichard based on a point system for job performance, innovation, cooperation, dedication, community service and involvement in the association.

"Norm is one of the most active and influential officials in the state, said L. Brent Gardner, the association's executive director. "He is well-versed in the duties and scope of his office and is called upon across the state for his expertise and advice."

STERLING HONORS: Gunnison Valley High School is the first of a dozen schools in south-central Utah to select its Sterling scholars. They will compete in the annual Sterling Scholars of Central Utah.
