A decision on creating a zone allowing a high-rise hotel in the Riverbottoms won't come until next month.
The City Council Tuesday postponed to Jan. 11 a public hearing on an ordinance creating a research and business park support zone. The zone would allow Missouri hotelier John Q. Hammons to build an eight-story Embassy Suites next to the RiverWoods Research and Business Park. The new zone would permit a building to rise 15 feet for every 100 feet it's set back from the road. The zone also calls for screening of parking areas and specific height for landscape berms.A group of northeast Provo residents is expected to strongly object to the proposal at next month's meeting. They say a tall building is out of character for the area and would obscure views of the valley.
The Provo Planning Commission approved the ordinance 5-2 last week despite neighborhood opposition.
