`GONE WITH WIND' OSCAR NETS A RECORD $510,000

Scarlett O'Hara vowed she would never go hungry again. If she had had Vivien Leigh's Oscar to sell, she would have been right.

An anonymous telephone bidder paid $510,000 at auction in New York Wednesday for the Academy Award won by the British actress for "Gone with the Wind." It was the highest price ever paid for one of the statuettes.Leigh won the Oscar for best actress in 1940. She died in 1967. The award was sold by her family.

The old record for an Academy Award was $110,000, paid for John Lennon's best-score Oscar from the movie "Let It Be."
