Skiing

CROSS COUNTRY RACES - Holy Cross Wasatch Citizens Series, Dec. 18, at Solitude Nordic Center. Start 9:45 a.m. kids, 10 a.m. others. Distance: Kids 1-5K, novices 5K, others 10K. Technique: Classical. Contact: Solitude Nordic Center, 272-7613.

Basketball

SR. JAZZ. Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation is offering Senior Jazz Basketball programs for boys and girls grades 9th through 12th. Fee is $45 and includes 8 games, jersey and Jazz game ticket. Games begin in January. Register at South Jordan City offices through Dec. 10. 253-2651.

GIRLS' SUPER LEAGUE. Salt Lake County Rec is offering a 9th grade Girls' Super League that will begin play on Jan. 4. Deadline is Dec. 17. Fee is $205 per team. Play Tuesday nights for seven weeks. 468-2560.

LEAGUE. Players and teams are needed for an All-Star Basketball League for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. Fee if $45. 14-game schedule. Play begins in January and teams will be formed by school area. 328-1535.

Soccer

INDOOR. Register for Youth Indoor Soccer for boys and girls at Northwest Multi-Purpose Center, 1300 W. 300 North, through December. Kindergarten through 8th grade. Fee is $25. Games start Jan. 4. 596-0072.

Volleyball

WALLYBALL. Alta Canyon Sports Center is starting a drop-in league for all levels of play. This is on-going event. Informal leagues on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. and Friday at 9 p.m. Free for members, $4 for non-members. Structured league on Saturdays and Wednesdays, with round-robin and double elimination tournaments every 6 weeks. Saturday formal leagues start Jan. 15, March 5 and April 23; Wednesday formal leagues in Nov., Jan. and March. STATE PARKS - For December: 16-30 at Iron Mission in Cedar City, Heritage Pioineer Country Chritmas, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Christmas tree with handmade pioneer style decorations will be on display, along with pioneer oriented displays of arts and crafts by local artists. REI CLINICS - On Dec. 21, between 6 and 8 p.m., REI's camping department will hold free clinic and tasty treats will be offered . . . Jan. 11, Mark Freed will present a slide show and video kayaking in Mexico and the turquoise rivers and waterfalls and jungles of Rio Jatate and Agua Azul . . . On Jan. 18, Pam Foyster will present a slide presentation and lecture on the prevention, basic diagnosis and treatment of frostbite, hypothermia - prevention, recognition and treatment . . . On Jan. 25, experts from the utah Avalanche Forecast Center will present an advanced avalanche clinic focusing on how to determine whether or not a slope is safe to ski or snowboard. DISABLE PROGRAMS. Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer recreation and leisure experiences to individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Adapted programs are designed to meet the physical and social needs of each participant.
