The deadline to apply for 1994-95 Community Development Block Grant funds will be about six weeks earlier next year than in years past.
The Provo Redevelopment Agency will accept applications until Jan. 15 with a grace period extending to Jan. 31. The citizens committee over the grant program recommended the earlier deadline to give the City Council more time to consider the various proposals. The federal grant money must be used mainly to remove blight and benefit low-income residents. The committee changed the application evaluation process to include training sessions for council members and city administrators. It also begins in November rather than cramming it into a few weeks each spring.
Applicants will make presentations to the committee in April and the council will hold public hearings and make final decisions in May.
