Bill Nowell, 51, died suddenly from a silent heart attack at his home on the morning of December 14, 1993.

Born in Columbia, Missouri on April 28, 1942. Bill earned a B.S. in economics from Missouri Valley College and an M.S. in geology from the University of Montana. The richness of life and nature fascinated Bill. He traveled often with family and friends, but was also content to explore alone. Enjoying and respecting the natural wilderness that enthralled him, Bill made frequent hikes, river and ski trips. He walked his lab, Shadow to the grocery store for breakfast daily. Bill also weight lifted and played softball.

Bill recreated the wonders he saw in nature by hand. He carved and painted birds and fishes from wood and he fashioned bowls and lamps on his lathe.

Above all, Bill will be remembered for his selfless humility. Bill was always willing to lend a hand. He kindly expressed dedication to community, and country through Boy Scouts and service in Vietnam. At the time of his death, Bill was retail supervisor for Phillips Petroleum in Salt Lake City.
