Our loving mother and grandmother, Amalia Mary Ybarra, 82 of Salt Lake City, died peacefully December 14, 1993 of heart failure.
She was born Nov. 20, 1911 in Gallina, New Mexico to Tomas and Maria Velarde. She spent her childhood in Monticello, Utah. She was one of ten children. She married Pedro Ybarra in Grand Junction, Colorado in July of 1934. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1960.Amalia was a very loving person who loved her family and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a fighter to the end. Her favorite pastime was going to Wendover every weekend to gamble. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Ybarra, Pete Ybarra, Joe Ybarra, and Tom Ybarra, all of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Anita Maestas, San Jose, Calif.; and Lugarda Echaves, Grand Junction, Colo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Vincente, Ralph and Abedon Verlarde, and sisters, Carolina Gonzales, Romelia Vialpondo, Isabel Archuleta and Tomacita Cordova.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 174 East 100 So. A vigil service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. and Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 So., where friends may call from 6-7 p.m. Committal: Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
