General Motors Corp. said Tuesday it is recalling about 341,000 cars to fix two separate safety problems.

In the first case, approximately 150,000 1992 and 1993 model Pontiac Sunbirds are being recalled to replace the throttle cable assembly. In extreme cold, the throttle cable may stick in the open position, even when pressure is removed from the accelerator. The car can still be stopped with the brake.

The second recall involves about 191,000 Pontiac LeMans and Optima models from 1988-1991.

The plastic release button on the seat belts of these vehicles may fracture after extended exposure to sunlight, making the belts unusable. The Optima was sold only in Canada.

Owners of the cars will be notified by mail, and GM dealers will make the repairs for free.
