National hospital conglomerate HealthTrust Inc. will likely buy out Holy Cross Health System Corp., which operates three hospitals and 10 clinics along the Wasatch Front, by early next year.
However, the Federal Trade Commission has asked for more information before allowing the deal, which would allow HealthTrust, already well-established in Utah, to acquire 200-bed Holy Cross Hospital of Salt Lake City, 50-bed Holy Cross Jordan Valley Hospital in West Jordan and Ogden's 204-bed St. Benedict's Hospital.HealthTrust, a Nashville, Tenn., corporation, currently runs hospitals in 21 states. It has six affiliates in Utah.
The transaction, announced in a Friday news release, would not include either the Holy Cross Hospital Foundation or the St. Benedict's Foundation.
The hospitals and clinics are owned by the Congregation of Sisters of the Holy Cross in South Bend, Ind.
