Owen Henry Duffy, our precious husband and father, died peacefully at home of heart failure, December 15, 1993.
Born to Henry Leo and Anna Maguire Duffy, July 13, 1916 in Arverne, New York. He was the oldest of five children. He helped his mother raise them after his father died in a hunting accident when he was only 12 years old.Owen grew up in Saranac Lake, New York. He was an Eagle Scout, an honor of which he was justly proud. He brought to us his love of the outdoors and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He attended Cornell University and graduated with a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1938. He met the love of his life, Mary Fennelly, on his birthday of that same year. They were married June 20, 1942, which was, according to Owen, "the most significant event of my life". They celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary this year.
Owen had a distinguished career in the aerospace industry. He worked for Sperry, Jet Propulsion Lab, Univac, and Bell Helicopter, from which he retired in 1985. He returned to Salt Lake City to enjoy his family and the mountains he loved.
No one who ever met Owen could fail to be influenced by his gentle courage and quick wit. He leaves his family a legacy of love which time will not diminish. We who loved him have been boundlessly blessed; he taught us how to live and he taught us how to die. He will be with us always.
He is survived by his wife, Mary and his children, Maureen; Hank and Kim Duffy; Gael and Tom Hill; Jody and Steve Brings. His grandchildren, David, Sara, Emeliee and Meighanna; Liam and Claire; Jason, Patrick and Ian; and Annie, his most recent joy. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Crim and was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Ellen.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Monday, December 20th. Friends may gather at the church just prior to the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Judge Memorial, Development or the LDS Hospital Foundation. Funeral Directors: Neil O'Donnell & Sons.
"Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. . .".
