The University of Utah women's basketball team finished with finals OK, but flunked its boards in a 66-51 loss to Eastern Washington. The Utes, who completed their final exams before leaving for Washington, were manhandled on the boards, getting out-rebounded, 42-29 (19-8 in the first half).
"Rebounding was a problem the whole game for us," said a frustrated Ute coach Elaine Elliott, who saw her club lose for the first time in eight meetings with EWU, while dropping to 2-4 this season.Angie Bandy led Utah with 14 points, while Teresa Totorica chipped in a season-high 13. Utah crept back into the game with seven minutes remaining, when Pam Nielsen hit the front end of a bonus to close the score to 48-43. But Eastern Washington went on an 18-8 tear to end the game.
Utah plays at Montana on Monday.
