The board of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen actor-director Robert Redford to receive the 1994 Cecil B. DeMille award for outstanding contributions to the entertainment field.
The longtime movie star will be presented the trophy Jan. 22 at the 51st annual Golden Globe Awards banquet, the first major show business awards ceremonies of the season.Previous winners of the DeMille award include: Lauren Bacall, Robert Mitchum, Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day and Clint Eastwood.
- 20th Century Fox, which has made three financially successful trips to the well with its movie series "Alien," starring galactic monsters in confrontation with Sigourney Weaver, and is looking to make a fourth sci-fi adventure.
Currently in the planning stages, the third sequel would find the enormous, insect-like creatures landing on Earth to do combat with guardians of the planet's well-being. The studio will have difficulty replacing Weaver in the lead role inasmuch as her character, Ripley, was killed off in "Alien 3."
