The prize, $2,000 in cash, is for books about cultural history. The first winner is to be announced at the society's general meeting next November."I gather that the intention of the anonymous donor - it is not myself - is to revive interest in cultural history, which has lately been underplayed in the profession," said Barzun, the former provost and dean of faculty at Columbia.
