Oscar Joseph Rowland, age 97, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away December 17, 1993 in his home in Salt Lake City, Utah of natural causes incident to age.
Born October 17, 1896 in Gretna, Virginia, son of Christopher Raleigh and Maria Tucker Rowland. He married Texanna S. Rowland January 21, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Oscar was a successful Salt Lake businessman and he was one of the original members of the Associated Food Stores, Inc. He established and ran his own retail food business for over 30 years. He also loved working in the garden. Anything he planted would grow and flourish. He was a man who truly understood the ethic of work. He was a high priest in the Nibley Park Ward.
Survived by two sons, Oscar G. Rowland, Salt Lake City; Glenn C. Rowland, Spanish Fork; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and one brother. Preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 1993, 12 noon at the Nibley Park LDS Ward Chapel, 2450 South 600 East. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Mountain View Memorial Estates.
