C. Dean Olson was born on November 20, 1907 in Fairview, Utah. He passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of December 14, 1993.
Mr. Olson had been a resident of Beverly Hills for over 50 years, where he served as a council member (1948-1952) and the mayor of Beverly Hills (1951-1952). He also served as a member and chairman of the Beverly Hills Planning Commission.He founded and directed Olson Farms, Inc., a major egg production, processing and distribution company throughout the United States. He founded Dolco Packaging Corporation with Dow Chemical, where he developed and manufactured the first foam egg carton. He also invented and developed the Big Mac hamburger package for McDonald's, building five major plants throughout the U.S. He was a National Advisory Committee member for the poultry industry under Agriculture Secretaries Clinton Anderson and Charles Brannon. He served as president of the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association and was a director of Pacific Egg Marketing Association, United Egg Producers, and Southwestern Egg Producers.
He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Utah, where he graduated in 1930. His distinguished football career at the university included being named "All Conference Guard 1928-1930." In October 1992, he was also named to the University of Utah "All Century Football Team 1892-1992." Mr. Olson also received the Abraham O. Smoot Award from Brigham Young University for public service.
He served on the National Advisory Council for both the University of Utah and Brigham Young University.
He was an active member of Beverly Hills and Westwood Ward congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as bishop, high councilor and high priest group leader.
Mr. Olson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma; his daughter, Linda; and his son, Peter, all of Beverly Hills; his brother, Glenn; and his sister, Ruby (Haight), both of Salt Lake City, Utah; and two grandchildren.
There is a viewing to be held on Monday, December 20, 1993 at Westwood Ward Chapel, 10740 Ohio Avenue, West Los Angeles at 12 p.m., with funeral services following at 1 p.m. The interment will be at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
