Two brothers were killed Sunday in a fire that started when they ignited chain saw fuel in their home.

Marvin Whitehorse, 11, and Roy Lee Whitehorse, 17, had been horseback riding and returned to their mother's hogan to get warm, said Bureau of Indian Affairs investigator Sammy Ahkee.A hogan is an earth-covered timber structure.

The fuel exploded when the boys lit it, setting the hogan on fire. Their mother, Rose Harrison, pulled Marvin from the home, but the elder boy was trapped when the hogan collapsed.

Montezuma Creek firefighters were unable to revive either boy, Ahkee said.
