With Christmas falling on a Saturday this year, some unlucky gift-getters might be stuck with one of those reversible orange and blue what's-its one day longer than they'd like.

That's because while many retailers will be open as usual on Sunday, Dec. 26, others will remain closed as usual and wait until Monday for the traditional after-Christmas sales-and-returns day."We anticipate Monday to be the big shopping day," said Janet Cisowski, marketing director for the Cottonwood Mall. Nevertheless, the Cottonwood Mall will be open as usual from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday for those shoppers who can't wait to rid themselves of the what's-it or buy a matching one on sale.

The ZCMI Center downtown will be closed as usual on Sunday, with the big sales events scheduled for Monday, said marketing director Julia Hogan. The Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City will be open two hours longer than usual on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

And with some exceptions, that seems to be the rule throughout the area: Stores normally closed Sunday will be closed Dec. 26; those normally open will be open Dec. 26.

Also, most of the retailers said stores will close early Friday, generally before 7 p.m., which means last-minute shoppers will have less time to grab the last what's-it on the shelf.
