Old Man Winter doesn't officially arrive until 1:26 p.m. MST Tuesday, but Utahns are already getting their noses nipped and having difficulty starting vehicles.

After winter arrives with the winter solstice, the days will gradually become longer for those living in the Northern Hemisphere and shorter for those in the Southern Hemisphere. For those "down under," the December solstice marks the official beginning of summer.In Utah County, a chance of light snow was forecast Monday. Elsewhere, meteorologists at the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service, said mostly sunny but hazy weather was expected to replace patchy low clouds and fog Monday afternoon.

Monday night, areas of low clouds and fog are expected. Clouds will increase late Monday night. Low temperatures will be 15 to 20 degrees.

Low temperatures early Monday included minus 7 degrees at Bear Lake, minus 4 at Bryce Canyon National Park, minus 15 at Duck Creek Village in Kane County and 8 degrees below zero at Snyderville in Summit County.
