Scott Young scored three goals and defenseman Craig Wolanin put Quebec ahead for good with a third-period goal as the Nordiques defeated San Jose 7-5 Sunday, handing the Sharks their sixth straight loss.
The Nordiques, rebounding from two losses, squandered leads of 2-0 and 4-3 before Wolanin, with his second goal in two games, fired a wrist shot through the legs of San Jose goaltender Jimmy Waite at 4:19 of the third, breaking a 4-4 tie.Iain Fraser, completing a neat passing play with Mike Ricci, made it 6-4 less than five minutes later. The Sharks again drew within a goal when Sergei Makarov scored with 3:46 to play, but Quebec's Valeri Kamensky added an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Joe Sakic had the other Quebec goal, while Jaroslav Otevrel, Bob Errey, Ray Whitney and Rob Gaudreau also scored for San Jose. Gaudreau's goal, at 1:24 of the third period, made it 4-4.
It was Young's second three-goal game of his NHL career, both against the Sharks. He scored three times at San Jose on Dec. 12, 1992.
Young, who has 11 goals this season, scored his first two goals before the 10th minute of the opening period.
But the Sharks pulled even by the end of the period, as Otevrel scored his first career goal, and Errey beat Quebec goaltender Garth Snow on a rebound.
After Whitney scored his first goal of the season, early in the second period, Quebec again moved ahead, with Sakic scoring on a power play and Young making it 4-3 with 2:08 to play in the period.
