Once again our "all wise" government leaders, in their endless blundering, have passed a worthless bill. The so-called Brady bill will waste yet additional millions of the taxpayers' money in the name of crime fighting, while having absolutely no effect on crime.
Still, those who crusaded for the legislation can point to their exploits in the crusade and be identified as "crime fighters." The Brady bill is self-serving, not society serving. Why can't these would-be political saviors open their eyes and look around at the horrific crimes of drunken drivers and then enact some meaningful legislation that would truly benefit society?
How do we punish drunken drivers? Do we ensure that they always spend some time in jail? Do we too quickly release them on their own recognizance so they can go out and kill someone else with a "loaded" automobile? Do we impound the car the drunk is driving and sell it in partial reparation of the incredible destruction done to so many lives? Do we strip drunken drivers of their license to kill? Do we suspend licenses for six months, one year, five years, 10 years? How many drunk killers are repeat offenders?
If lawmakers want to get tough on crime, get tough on drunken drivers - do something that will make a real difference in keeping our communities safe.
