Salt Lake County Animal Services invites the public to visit its shelters at 890 N. 300 West and 511 W. 3900 South during its annual Christmas open house.
The shelters will be open to visitors through Thursday, Dec. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 weekdays and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Light refreshments will be offered.Shelter personnel will display a wide selection of information pamphlets and fliers for people in need of assistance with various situations involving pets. People are free to browse through these pamphlets and take them home if needed.
"We hope by offering our knowledge, skills and information to pet owners and those who are thinking of becoming pet owners, that this holiday season and the years ahead will be more peaceful and pleasant for all," says Julie Smith, public relations coordinator for Animal Services.
Gifts for the animals are welcome. The most needed items include cat food, kitten formula, kitty litter, cat treats, double cat dishes, dog food, and as usual, old towels and blankets, according to Smith. "Grooming supplies, such as clippers, brushes and dog and cat shampoo are also on our wish list."
Animal Services also accepts monetary contributions to assist with spay/neuter fees for low-income people and senior citizens who adopt pets from the shelters.
