A group of 35 children in Rowland Hall-St. Mark's preschool program recently planted 100 acorns in special containers as part of a Salt Lake community service project. The 3-year-olds plan to monitor the acorns as they grow into saplings. By the time the children reach the fifth grade, the saplings should be large enough to donate to the city.
Bernie Boswell, president of Cottage Program International and Families in Focus, was recognized for more than 30 years of exemplary service to the community at a recent awards luncheon. He was presented with Highland Ridge Hospital's Distinguished Service Award.Ashley Rhinehart, daughter of Lynda Phillips of Salt Lake City, was recently named to the 1993-94 Garnet Circle academic honor society at Erskine College in Due West, S.C.
Robert E. Taylor of CCI Mechanical in Salt Lake City was recently inducted into the College of Fellows of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association for his contributions to the industry.
Michael Moffitt, son of Pam Moffitt of Salt Lake City, won a $2,000 savings bond for placing second in the Albertsons Huggies National Diaper Race on Thanksgiving Day.
Marj Peck, assistant administrator for nursing for Intermountain Health Care in Salt Lake City, April Lassen, a registered nurse at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, and Valerie Larson-Lohr, clinical coordinator of the Intermountain Hyperbaric Medicine Center at LDS Hospital, were recently honored by the Utah Nurses Association for their outstanding contributions to their profession.
Jason Tundermann, a senior at Rowland Hall-St Mark's School, has been selected as Utah's state delegate to the 32nd annual U.S. Senate Youth Program in Washington, D.C., from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5. Tundermann was also awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
Four members of the Salt Lake Alumni Group of Delta Gamma National Fraternity, Margaret Robinson Regan, Lela Rae Potts Bergstrom, Shirley Thompson Mulcock and Marion Spratt Palmer, were recently honored by the National Society to Prevent Blindness for their 35 years of service to the preschool vision screening program. In 1958, the four women helped found the Utah affiliate of the National Society to Prevent Blindness.
J. Ted Vogt, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Vogt of Salt Lake City, was elected student body president of Branford College at Yale University for the 1993-94 academic year. During the summer, Vogt, a graduate of Judge Memorial High School, served an internship in the Washington, D.C., office of Sen. Orrin Hatch.
