Salt Lake County

The Salt Lake County Commission on Monday:

- Accepted a Thomas Playmate organ as a donation from Daniel Phillip Gard to the county's Friendly Neighborhood Senior Center. The organ is valued at $1,500.

- Paid $1,531.11 to Caring For Kids, which provides child care during the day for county employees. The payment is to cover losses due to a new county policy limiting enrollment to the children of county employees.

- Agreed to pay $67,702.80 for allegedly having disposed of 67,325 gallons of used oil over several years at the Ekotek Superfund Site. The payment ends all claims against the county in the matter.

Davis County

In its meeting Monday, Dec. 20, the Davis County Commission:

- Tabled an improvement agreement requested by Mark Kiniston on 1100 West in west Farmington. The area was recently annexed into Farmington.

- Approved a revision in the county's travel policy. County employees may stay in a private lodging, such as a condo, travel trailer, or with friends or relatives, while out of town on county business and be reimbursed for actual expenses up to $50 with the permission of their department head.

In meetings Dec. 13 and 15, the commission:

- Tabled a zoning ordinance amendment putting tighter restrictions on the number of pigs that can be raised per acre in the agricultural areas.

- Approved an ordinance allowing the County Commission, acting as the board of appeals, to waive a $100 penalty required for payment of delinquent personal property taxes.

- Approved a $35,000 contract with the firm of Deloitte and Touche to conduct an independent audit of county finances.

- Named Dixie Peck from the nursing division of the county health department as county employee of the year. Also nominated were Jennifer Haygood, Craig B. Layton and Dorothy Peterson.

- Approved a CDBG grant application request from the county public works department for $245,000 to build a flood retention basin in the Mutton Hollow area.

- Approved a rental agreement with a group of Ogden residents to put on a country-western dance at the county fairgrounds but only for one weekend.
