Khalid Reeves had a career-high 32 points for No. 13 Arizona, which couldn't put away pesky Notre Dame until the final four minutes Tuesday night in a 98-79 victory in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.
The Wildcats (7-0) will play No. 18 Boston College, a 108-61 winner over Chaminade, in Wednesday night's semifinals.Reeves, a senior guard averaging 22 points per game, almost had that at halftime with 20 points, but the Fighting Irish (2-4) were only down 44-40.
Notre Dame, smaller on the front line and slower in the backcourt, wouldn't go away and had the lead down to 78-74 with 5:46 left on a layup by Jason Williams.
Two free throws by Keith Kurowski had the Fighting Irish within 82-76 1:17 later, but Reeves scored the next five points, the last three on his fifth 3-pointer.
Damon Stoudamire, Reeves' partner in what many consider the best backcourt in the nation, hit a 3-pointer with 3:41 left to make it 90-77 and Notre Dame was out of comebacks.

The Eagles (7-0) set a tournament record for margin of victory as they held the host Silverswords (0-4) scoreless for the game's opening 6:55 while taking an 18-0 lead. Boston College had a 42-24 rebounding advantage and went 11-for-17 from 3-point range with Eisley leading the way at 6-for-7.
Chaminade, a Division II school which has a 3-23 record in 10 years of playing host to the tournament, was led by Charles McLemore's 16 points.
No. 5 Kentucky 86, Texas 61
The Wildcats (5-1) did an outstanding defensive job on the Texas backcourt of Terrence Rencher and B.J. Tyler, and Jered Prickett came up big with 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Kentucky led 37-27 at halftime, broke it open with a 27-17 run to take a 66-44 lead with 10:38 to play.
Rencher finished with 15 points and Tyler had four, well off their team-leading figures of 17.6 and 16.0, respectively.
Ohio St. 98, Tennessee Tech 77
The Buckeyes (5-2) had seven players score between 13 and nine points as they cruised past the Eagles (2-4), who went 10-for-29 from the free throw line and 3-for-19 from 3-point range.

At West Lafayette, Ind., Glenn Robinson, who missed eight of his first 10 shots, but came back to score 36 points and pace Purdue (9-0) to a hard-fought victory over the Moccasins (3-2).
No. 24 Marquette 84, La. Tech 48
At Milwaukee, the Warriors went on a 27-0 tear to turn a close game into a laugher. Anthony Pieper scored nine of his 14 points as the Warriors (6-2) transformed a 16-14 lead into a 43-14 bulge at intermission. Tech (1-4) failed to score for over 10 minutes at the end of the half and finished the opening period missing 30 of 36 shots.
