Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin rallied on behalf of New York City carriage horses and got into a shouting match with a driver.
The actors met Monday with animal rights activists and politicians at City Hall to urge defeat of a proposal to allow carriages to expand their hours and areas of operation. After brief comments by Baldwin, carriage driver Eva Haws stepped forward to say the horses are well cared for. Basinger touched Haws' shoulder and yelled at her to look at photos of horses that had collapsed.
"You are not to touch me!" Haws yelled back.
Haws, a driver of 10 years, pointed to a white horse she said had been working city streets without incident for 17 years.
