A Salt Lake man died Tuesday afternoon in a paraglider accident near Canyon Crest Elementary School, 4664 N. Canyon Road.

Killed was:Monte Melville, 39.

Described by Provo police officials as an experienced para-glider pilot, Melville had launched from Inspiration Point, a scenic overlook in northeast Provo. In attempting to land, he struck a live power line, subsequently falling approximately 40 feet and landing near the northeast side of the school.

Emergency crews were on the scene within minutes, and paramedics performed CPR en route to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. However, Melville died of extensive head, neck and chest injuries shortly after reaching the hospital.
