A royal woman and an elect lady, Myrle Livingston Cloward, returned home to her Heavenly Father on December 21, 1993. She sustained a fall on Sunday and underwent successful surgery on Monday, but succumbed unexpectedly Tuesday morning.

She was born January 29, 1921 in Fountain Green, Utah, a daughter of Heber and Mary Jane Oldroyd Livingston. She married Wells P. Cloward, August 17, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She and her husband, Wells, started their own restaurant business in Payson after World War II which they moved to Provo in 1948. When that business was destroyed by fire they went, as a team, in 1951 to BYU to direct Food Services for the university and the church for over thirty years. They lived their lives and conducted their business based upon the highest principles and values. The hallmark of their management skills is that they were loved by all those that worked with and under their direction. Few couples demonstrate the oneness she and her husband Wells achieved in their marriage and in their work.

Myrle was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Myrle was companion and helpmate to Wells while he served nine years as bishop. Together they often home taught and did visiting teaching to those in greatest need of a sincere, gentle and loving touch. She literally served and new five Presidents of the Church. She was the author of two histories. The personal history of she and Wells titled "Through The Year" and the history of their years at BYU titled "A Moment in Time".

She was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing her and she will be greatly missed. She epitomized all the lovely attributes of womanhood. She was beautiful, gracious, kind, caring and loving. Perhaps one word to best describe her would be refined. She was always positive and ready to accept any challenge. She taught by example and never expected more of others than she was willing to give of herself. She was great among us because she served all.

Myrle is survived by her husband, Wells P. Cloward, Orem. They are the parents of three children, a son, Dr. Sherman L. Cloward and wife, Sheryle, Provo; two daughters, Connie, wife of Dr. Robert J. Parson, Orem; Kelly, wife of Bryan L. Pettit, Riverside, California. They are grandparents to 17 grandchildren and great-grandparents of 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Asa (Fawn) Reynold, Mrs. Etta Schofield, Mrs. Connie Henry, Mrs. Richard (Leslie) Miller and a brother, Gordon Livingston; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Rhea McBeth, Mrs. Lyle Thomas, and a brother-in-law, Don Cloward.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 24, at 11 a.m. in the Orem Park Stake Center at 195 West 300 South. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 600 East 800 North, Orem, and Friday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
